Frame Problem
.......... John McCarthy 와 Patrick J. Hayes 는 1969 년 "AI 관점에서의 철학적 문제" 를 발표하여 AI 가 앞으로 어떻게 진행될지를 재검토하였다. 그들은 철학자들이 2500 년에나 실현될 것이라는 견해를 무시했다. 극복해야할 2가지 문제가 있는데, 첫째는 "frame problem" 으로서 엄청난 계산의 부담을 극복하는문제이고, 둘째는 "qualification problem" 으로서 예상되는 규칙을 중단하고 예외의 경우를 수용하는 문제이다 ..........
AI 에서 frame problem 은 많은 가능한 형식 (formulations) 을 가진다. 가장 흔한 형태중 하나는, 변화하는 세계에서 효율적으로 스스로를 어떻게 유지할 것인가에 관한 의문이다 (question of how to determine efficiently which things remain the same in a changing world). John McCarthy 와 Patrick Hayes 는 1969 년 그들의 글 Some Philosophical Problems from the Standpoint of Artificial Intelligence 에서 "frame problem" 이라는 용어를 처음 소개했다.
'frame problem' 이란 이름은 만화영화 제작자들이 만화영화의 현재 움직이는 부분을 "frame" 이나 움직이지 않는 주위환경에 겹치게 하는 framing 이라고 부르는 흔한 기술에서 만들어진 용어로서 그와 유사한 현상을 의미한다. AI 맥락에서는, 행동들이 몇몇 사실들의 진리여부 (truth values) 를 변화시키지만 거의 모든 다른것들은 변화하지 않은채로 남아있는 것을 의미한다 (actions change the truth values of some facts but almost everything else remains unchanged).
이와같이 원래 AI 에서의 특별한 문제로서 언급되었지만, 지금은 철학과 지식표현 (Knowledge Representation) 에서 광범위한 의미로 사용된다. J. van Brakel 에 따르면 frame problem 와 관련되거나 특별한 버전으로 발전하여 다음과 같은 문제를 포함한다.
