Patrick Henry Winston : MIT AI Lab : Learning structural descriptions from examples,  

Winston 은 MIT 의 AI and Computer Science 의 Ford Professor 이다. MIT 에서 1965 년에 학사, 1967년에 석사, 1970년에 박사학위를 받았다. 그는 1967 년부터 MIT AI lab 과 함께 했고, 1970 년에 교수가 되었고, 1972 년부터 1997 년까지 AI lab 의 지도교수였다.

그는 주로 특히 vision, language, motor faculties 대한 연구를 통해 지능을 설명하려 하였다. 그는 또한 learning, precedent-based reasoning, common-sense problem solving 등을 가능하게 하는 AI 의 응용을 연구해 왔다. 그는 AI 텍스트, 몇 개의 프로그램 언어에 관한 책들을 출간했고, AI 응용에 관한 논문 모음집을 편집했고, 핵심적인 MIT 연구논문 모음집을 몇 개 편집했다. Winston 은 Ascent Technology Inc 의 공동설립자이며 회장이다. 그것은 섬세한 scheduling, resource allocation, schedule recovery applications, AI technology 등을 가능하게 하는 회사이며 세계의 주요 공항과 국방성에서 사용하고 있다.

그는 member of the Naval Research Advisory Committee (NRAC) (1985–1990, 1994–2000) 로 있었고 1997 년에서 2000 까지는 Chair 로서 봉직했다. 그가 NRAC 에 있는 동안, 몇가지 연구를 수행했는데, 차세대 컴퓨터 자원 개발에 공헌했고 technology for reduced manning 에 대한 연구를 하였다. 그는 최고 비밀정보 보안 취급허가 (clearance) 를 가지고 있다. 또한 AAAI 의 전 회장이다.
