Morris H. DeGroot
(미국 통계학자 1931~1989)
Morris H. DeGroot 는 1931 년 Scranton,Pennsylvania 에서 태어나 Roosevelt University 에서 수학을 University of Chicago 에서 통계를 공부했다. 1957 년에 Carnegie Mellon 에 와서 1966 년에 통계학과 학과장이 되고 최고 영예인 University Professor 가 되어 1989 년에 사망할때까지 재직했다. 그는 3권의 책과 수많은 논문을 남겼다. 그러나 통계학에서 그의 영향은 지대하다. 그를 접한 사람들은 그의 유머와 조크에 감화되고 그의 천재성과 상상력, 지구력과 열정적인 지성을 존경하였다. 그가 생전에 출간한 3 권의 저서는 통계학자들에게 위대한 것이었다. 그 영향으로 DeGroot Prize 까지도 만들게 되었던 것이다.
American Statistical Association 의 펠로우였고 Institute of Mathematical Statistics, International Statistical Institute, Econometric Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science 에 관여했다. 대부분의 그의 연구는 불확실성하의 합리적인 의사결정이론 (theory of rational decision-making under uncertainty) 에 대한 것이었다
